For the third year, 99.7 The River is hosting the River Relief Truck in support of the Campbell River Food Bank and other local charities. Last year, in 8 days, the River Relief Truck raised $250,000 in non-perishable food items which supplied the CR Food Bank until July of this year. The River Relief Truck will be located downtown in Mariner Square starting Thursday, December 1st.
“It’s about giving back to the community” says Program Director and Morning Show Host, Dave Reynolds, “it’s extremely important that we take care of those less fortunate in this community … and Christmas is the largest time of need”. Mr. Reynolds is once again committing himself to live in a 53 foot transport trailer, from Van Kam Transportation, until it is full. 99.7 The River will be broadcasting live from the trailer for the duration of the River Relief Truck encouraging the community to support the initiative and bring donations to the downtown location in Mariner Square on Dogwood Street.
“The public and local businesses went above and beyond last year in their support” say Kealy Donaldson, Sales Manager at 99.7 The River. “We were overwhelmed by the community’s generosity. On ‘Turkey Tuesday’, we put the call out for turkeys for the Salvation Army. We had hoped for 100, and were in awe by the end of the day when over 227 turkeys had been donated. That provided 2,500 meals here in Campbell River”.
The need for food donations continues to be high, and the goal is to once again fill the semi-trailer with non-perishable food donations. 99.7 The River is asking the community for their support this year starting December 1st. Get your business involved, your sports team, school, association or even just your own household. This initiative allows the less fortunate in the Campbell River area to stay healthy and fed through the winter season. For further details on involvement, contact the station at 250.287.7106.
